About

Emily Duevel

Head Instructor/Trainer

I have worked with riders and horses in multiple disciplines providing training by elevating the connection between horse and rider through positive reinforcement, consistency, and a safe and encouraging environment.   The foundation of the art of riding comes from an understanding of the anatomy, physiology, and psychology of both the horse and rider.  My educational background is in psychology and equine science which lends itself well to my pursuit.

I offer riding lesson and training programs at Legacy Equestrian Center in Celina, Texas (easily accessed from the North Tollway or Hwy 380 to surrounding communities such as Aubrey, Celina, Prosper, McKinney, Little Elm, Plano, Frisco, Mellisa, and Allen).

I began riding at the age of two and have training in hunt seat, dressage, show jumping, western pleasure, saddle seat, and driving.  I have ridden under the instruction of world class professionals such as Beck Holder, George Morris, Dick Wallen and Mona Bonham.  I have been teaching and training horses in a variety of disciplines for more than 20 years and have competed at the regional and national levels in equitation (saddle seat, western, & hunt seat), jumpers, hunters, dressage, eventing, & western pleasure.  I have also worked as a certified judge, judging at the local and state levels.  I have worked extensively with a variety of breeds including: Warm Bloods, Thoroughbreds, Saddlebreds, Morgans, Arabians, Quarter Horses, & Paints.

Instructor/Trainer

My philosophy is focused on helping riders strengthen the relationship with their horse; establishing and enhancing the lines of communication to build a synchronous team.

I began riding at the age of seven and have show experience in show jumping, dressage, and hunt seat equitation. I graduated from Texas Tech University in 2017 with a degree in Child Development and a love for working with kids. During my time at Tech I rode for the Equestrian Team, successfully showing at Regionals and Zones representing the team and as an individual. Following my time in college I worked as a professional dog trainer, further developing my skills and understanding of animal behavior.

I have trained under and worked for a variety of trainers in Dallas/Fort Worth and Lubbock areas including: Christian Heinikin, Amanda Comly, Kai Handt, Fiona Donnelly, Allison Tiffert, and Lindsey Jones. My time spent with each of these trainers diversified my skills and deepened my love of the horse and the sport. The variety of trainers and range of horses I have worked with over the years has provided me with unique knowledge and understanding of horse behavior and communication patterns that I integrate into instruction to heighten the relationship between horse and rider.

"I have known and ridden with Emily for almost as long as I can remember, and she is truly one of the best horsemanship and riding instructors you could have. I started as a complete beginner many years ago with her and then moved up through the levels, and at every point Emily provided invaluable instruction that always puts your safety and the horse’s well being first. She is calm, well rounded, open minded, punctual, communicative, and a huge asset to anyone’s equestrian journey. She gave me the best foundation in horsemanship I could have asked for and that has continued to this day." ~ Hannah R.
"Emily is a calm, thorough, competent instructor, who is able to provide riders with a strong foundation for a variety of disciplines. She is encouraging, enthusiastic, and puts the well-being of her horses and riders first!"  ~ Catherine R.
"I have fond memories of taking riding lessons with Emily and she also coached my 4-H Quiz Bowl team. She’s knowledgeable, patient, and able to connect with a wide variety of learning styles. I highly recommend her!"  ~ Taylor E.
